Chief Executive Officer

Sisawo Konteh

Sisawo Konteh is the Chief Executive Officer, the Aga Khan Health Services, Tanzania prior to which he held the position of the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Primary Medical Centers respectively.

He also served as the director of donor funded PPP projects notably the IMPACT project – Improving Community Access to Reproductive, Maternal and Newborn Health (RMNH) services which was a 4-year project ($14.7 million CAD, 2017-2021) designed to reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity in Mwanza region. The project improved 80 public health facilities, invested in capacity building and reached over a million people. He is the director of the Tanzania Comprehensive Cancer Care Project (TCCP) – a five-year (2020 – 2024) project aimed at reducing the burden of cancer morbidity and mortality in Tanzania.

Sisawo had previous experience working with the Aga Khan Health Services in Afghanistan for a period of 6 years as the Director of Bamyan Regional Hospital from 2004 – 2007. He later headed the Aga Khan Health Programmes in Northern Afghanistan as the Regional Health Programme Manager for the Badakshan Province from 2007 – 2009.

Prior to joining the Aga Khan Health Services in Afghanistan, Sisawo served as the Chief Executive Officer for a Government Regional Level Hospital The Gambia from 2001 – 2004. He earned a Masters’ degree in Hospital Management from Leeds University’s prestigious Nuffield Centre for International Health & Development in 2002.

He attended several leadership courses including Business Management on the “Blue Ocean Strategy” (2011) and Strategic Innovation for Community Health 2017) from The INSEAD Business School, France. He also attended the famous Harvard Kennedy School’s Executive Education Programme on Adaptive Leadership Course in 2019
