Country Director

Dr. Florence Temu

Dr Florence Temu is currently a Country Director for Amref Health Africa in Tanzania. She has worked for Amref Health Africa for over ten years in different capacities. Before joining the organisation she worked in various roles with the Tanzanian Government for several years.
Dr Temu holds a degree in medicine, a Masters degree in public health and a diploma in Palliative Care, as well as a university certificate in geriatric health care management. In Amref Health Africa she has served as project manager, head of programmes, deputy country director in Tanzania and as country director for Ethiopia and now Tanzania. Before that she worked as head of cancer prevention at Ocean Road Cancer Institute in Tanzania, and as a general medical practitioner and researcher under maternal and HIV research projects at Muhimbili National Hospital.
Dr Temu has expertise and skills in public health, health strategy development, organisational development, strategic leaderships, health programme development, resources mobilization and leadership, operational research, training and counselling. Her areas of interest fall under reproductive and maternal health, HIV and AIDS, non-communicable diseases, geriatric health and palliative care. Florence has taken several leadership and management courses including being part of PEAK Fellowship by Population Fellows Programs by the University of Michigan, USA. Florence is a member and holder of Mastery of Directorship Certificate of the Institute of Directors of Tanzania (IoDT). Florence is also a member of Women Leaders for the World programme of the Global Women Leadership Network.
Dr Temu has authored and co-authored couple of publications and had been involved in a number of studies as well in development of various strategic plans. Florence sits as Board member in the Board of Directors of the Guaranty Trust Bank (Ag. Chair of Risk Committee) as well as Stop TB Partnership Tanzania Chapter (as Treasurer). Prior to that she was as Deputy Chairperson of the Board of White Ribbon Alliance for Tanzania. Previously she a member in the steering committee of the African Union on the Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa.
