Julius Magabe

CEO and Regional Executive - East Africa

Julius Magabe is the Regional Executive: East Africa for Sanlam Pan Africa – Life responsible for Sanlam Life businesses in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda. He is a seasoned insurer with over 22 years’ experience in insurance and risk management, 18 of which have been at senior management level. Julius joined Sanlam in 2007 as Head of Corporate Business for Sanlam Life Insurance Tanzania and was appointed CEO & Managing Director of the business in 2010, a position he held for 6 years before being appointed Regional Executive for East Africa and joining the Sanlam Emerging Market’s Executive Committee in 2016. Prior to joining Sanlam, Julius worked in various senior capacities in the Tanzania financial services industry, spanning from General Insurance, Broking, Loss Adjusting to Banking.

Julius serves on various boards of Sanlam businesses in East Africa. He is Chairman of Sanlam Rwanda, Chairman of Capital Properties Tanzania, Chairman HR Committee Sanlam General Insurance Tanzania, Director Sanlam Kenya Plc. He also serves as Chairman of Tanzania Microinsurance Technical Working Group. Julius also sat on the Board of Association of Tanzania Insurers (ATI) for 5 years up to June 2016 where he served as Chairman of the Life Council and Vice Chairman of the Association.

Julius is an alumnus of the University of Pretoria, GIBS Business School’s Executive Leadership Program (ELP), he holds an MBA from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) and is a graduate in Insurance and Risk Management from the Institute of Finance Management Tanzania.
